What is Ultimate Oil Recovery?

"Ultimate Oil Recovery" is a term used in the oil and gas industry, and more specifically a petroleum engineering term that deals with the (estimated) amount of oil that will be recovered from a reservoir throughout its' productive life - from primary recovery, to secondary recovery and finally, through tertiary or enhanced oil recovery. 

The formula this is often used to determine ultimate oil recovery is the estimated ultimate oil recovery for (a mature oil field, reservoir, etc.) divided by the total (estimated) oil in place (remaining) for a percentage (%) amount or total.
